Stylish and practical options for how to dress for a trip. Capsule wardrobe: travel to Europe What to wear on a tourist trip

Where does any journey begin, when the preparation stage has already been completed - the direction has been determined, tickets have been purchased, visas have been received? That's right, we're starting to pack our things. When you make dozens of trips to different countries and cities in a year, you develop a lot of things automatically. You already know that if you are going to Perm for a couple of days, a photo backpack and a small backpack with the necessary set of things are enough. If you are flying to Europe for 4-7 days, a small suitcase or bag is enough. If it’s longer and further, then you can’t do without a suitcase or a large backpack. But the most important thing is what to put there? What is the best clothing to take? How to predict what is needed and what is not, so as not to carry too much? How not to forget anything and take everything into account?
Today I have come to an algorithm where I have a certain set of clothes and things that I take on trips for different seasons, which has clearly formed over time. This approach allows you not to carry unnecessary things with you, but also not to be without something that you will definitely need.
In today’s review I won’t talk about absolutely everything, I’ll only talk about my set of clothes for traveling around Russia and Europe in the spring-autumn period.

2. My outfit for short trips fits in a small backpack or carry-on suitcase. For long or double trips (especially with different climate conditions), I take a 65-liter suitcase (which also fits a tripod and photo load).
Photographic equipment is separately included in the photo backpack.

3. Of the clothes in my suitcase: 1-2 pairs of trousers, 1 sweatshirt, 1 jacket, T-shirts (short and 1-2 long sleeves) according to the number of days of travel, 1 shorts, underwear, socks, 1 restaurant shirt, 1 pair of comfortable shoes.
Due to the fact that when I travel I like to actively shoot, walk and look a lot, I take this entire set in addition to the clothes I’m flying in. You can, of course, barely change clothes, but several times I came across a situation where my trousers and shoes turned out to be heavily stained with grass due to a bad hike. I don’t like to look unkempt during flights, so I immediately take off the clothes I’m flying in and put on something from my standard travel kit.

4. What is the most important thing in clothing for travel?
For myself personally, I have determined the following criteria:
- it should be comfortable;
- it should not be restrictive, otherwise it is inconvenient to take photographs, moving with a backpack or photo unloading becomes uncomfortable and hot;
- it should be light to reduce the weight of the suitcase and sit more comfortably on the body:

5. Clothing must be reliable, not fade in the rain, not unravel at the seams and not fray as a result of slight friction. It should also be neither hot nor cold. This is very important. Items seem to complement each other if it’s cold;

6. Shoes should be light, comfortable, reliable, have a non-slip sole and a comfortable instep for you personally, so that the foot does not get tired during long walking.
Until last year, I preferred sneakers, but recently I have been using lightweight textile Skechers Expected sneakers with a very comfortable Memory Foam insole system. The trick of this insole is that it takes the shape of the bottom of the foot, creating a comfortable instep.

7. It just so happens that wherever I go, I walk and take pictures a lot, so the degree of leg fatigue is extremely important for me personally.

8. Anyone who travels actively never knows what situations he will find himself in).
Either you want to lie down on the ground for a good shot, or ride a child’s bike, or crawl on the grass, or something else...
There is an eternal problem with the “wrong” trousers. They can tear in the most unexpected place, come apart at the seams, fade from water, and leave even the most harmless stain on them forever.

9. Try to find pants that are comfortable and lightweight, made from fabric that is highly durable.
Ideally, they should dry quickly, be resistant to fading and frequent washing, and not be hot.

10. I have been wearing Merrell trousers of various models for several years now. My favorite ones are gray, and in summer khaki and khaki colors.

11. The fabric composition of 2/3 cotton and 1/3 nylon makes them breathable, but also not afraid of such situations, when in 1-2 trips you can wipe holes (if they are purely cotton)

12. The number of pockets on trousers does not matter to me, because... for all the little things - documents, phone, keys, money, etc. I use photo unloading

13. Sometimes you have to jump over fences, running away from “there’s an angry dog in the yard.”

14. In spring and autumn there are often strong changes in weather and temperature.
For this occasion, I take a sweatshirt and a compact Outventure wind and waterproof jacket with a hood.
I was really pleased with this model. Lightweight, very compact and at the same time waterproof and windproof. Since last year she has been with me on all my autumn and spring trips.

15. In between a T-shirt and a jacket, I use the Mountain Hardwear Strecker Fleece Sweatshirt. It replaced my constant orange hoodie, which you could see in many of my photos from past travels and now also invariably ends up in my suitcase, almost all year round - in winter, summer, autumn, and spring.
In general, fleeces are an ideal solution for people who love active recreation, because they are warm, light, comfortable and always very comfortable. If it suddenly becomes very cold, paired even with a simple thin windbreaker, a fleece will definitely keep you from freezing.

16. By combining this small set of clothes, you can stay warm when it’s really cool.
And at the same time it takes up very little space in a suitcase or backpack.

17. Travel, get out into nature more often, to the mountains, to the sea and to the places of your dreams.
And remember all the moments of your life, because it is so fleeting...

After booking tickets and a hotel for a vacation, tourists have a question about what clothes to take with them on a trip. Unfortunately, it is impossible to stock up on absolutely everything and predict different scenarios on vacation.

Therefore, experienced travelers/tourists have compiled a number of recommendations for those who are just starting to spend their holidays in countries far and near.

Basic tourist wardrobe in summer

First of all, you need to decide on a style - you shouldn’t throw everything in your suitcases, since an openwork blouse is unlikely to be combined with sneakers with thick soles.

Therefore, you need to understand exactly how you want to look when traveling:

  • sports style - we take only trousers, skirts and shorts that go with sports shoes, you can stock up on T-shirts and T-shirts, baseball caps;
  • romantic nature - tunics, loose capes and shirts, sundresses, open sandals are an excellent choice;
  • business style - yes, some even on vacation want to present themselves as an always busy and business-like person, so light but strict dresses with a closed neckline, capri pants with blouses, trousers and blouses are suitable for them.

When choosing a wardrobe for traveling in the summer, you need to consider what your vacation plans are - enjoying the sun on the beach or sightseeing and excursions in the mountains. Additionally, it is worth learning about the climate (for example, differences in day/night air temperatures) and the local mentality (in some countries, a woman in shorts may be looked upon disapprovingly).

Experienced travelers have identified several points that will provide clarity when packing your suitcase.

Material and its color

Summer is hot, so you should give preference to light and white shades of clothing. Yes, it gets dirty quickly, but it can be washed at any time and dried in a few minutes. If you choose clothes made from white natural material with a slight addition of synthetic fibers, then there will be no problems. But:

  • the heat will be easier to bear;
  • you can change your image often;
  • the combination of tanned skin with white clothes is simply stunning.

For hot countries, it is completely normal to change clothes several times a day, so there may be several light and white tunics, sundresses, and T-shirts.

Do you need warm clothes?

There is no need to think that our grandmothers and mothers, who take a sweater on any trip, simply do not understand anything. In fact, they are acting wisely, because the difference between night and day air temperatures can be large. For example, in Thailand late in the evening it is better not to go outside without a jacket - it is easy and simple to freeze from the fresh wind and even get sick.

For warm clothes, you need to take a thin, but voluminous jacket or cardigan - this will be enough. And it is better to give preference to a product made of natural wool - it will prevent overheating in the heat, and will warm you in the cold. Even the thickest cotton or linen material will not have such an effect.

You shouldn't reject the umbrella either. Even the most accurate weather forecasts tend not to come true; it will be a shame to find yourself in a hopeless situation on vacation (literally), because even a little rain can ruin all your plans.

Shoes

Any heels or tight/dress shoes should stay at home. Vacations should be comfortable, practical for the soul and the whole body, so you need to take with you on your trip:

  • sneakers;
  • sandals;
  • light moccasins;
  • ballet shoes

They should be light, graceful and flat. It is advisable to purchase inexpensive models - at any time you can discover that your shoes are missing, so it is better to play it safe. By the way, in many countries you will need to take off your shoes before entering temples. Naturally, there are a lot of remaining shoes on the doorstep and it is not surprising that most models simply disappear in an unknown direction. Advice from experienced tourists is to always take backup pairs with you.

Headdress

A must have in a tourist's wardrobe! Wide-brimmed hats, caps, and scarves will protect your head from the scorching sun and will not lead to fading of your hair color. You can use a thin scarf - it is wrapped like a turban and worn with any clothing.

And the last thing that needs to be taken into account when preparing for a trip in the summer is the peculiarities of the national mentality of the host country.

In many Muslim countries, the open body of a woman/girl is perceived very poorly, this irritates local residents and makes their attitude towards guests of the country not very positive.

Thin long-sleeved shirts, skirts, sundresses, trousers - these models will allow you to show respect for local traditions.

An additional bonus will be salvation from the scorching sun and prevention of burns. And considering that now most models are made from natural fabrics, there is no need to worry about heat stroke.

Winter clothing for travel

Vacations are provided not only in the summer, but also in some countries it is better to travel to some countries in winter - there is some charm in the northern beauties. Naturally, you need to think through your wardrobe in advance. And the first thing you need to pay attention to is outerwear. It could be a coat in the form of a sweater, but such a model is only suitable for a trip to Europe, not to Scandinavia.

The best option would be a down jacket – it’s lightweight, doesn’t restrict movement, and looks great with both dresses and trousers. Now there are quite modern models on sale that can easily be confused with a classic parka or tweed coat.

Here's what you should take from your basic wardrobe for a winter trip:

  • Trousers. A universal option, it will allow you not to stand out from the crowd and be like everyone else. In this case, jeans and a sports jacket will be the best choice, but boring. Tweed trousers and jockey trousers with interesting/bright colors or an unusual print will help you express yourself brightly and stylishly. Such models can be combined with down jackets and coats.
  • Dresses. They can be made of fine cashmere, angora wool or tweed, but should fall below the knees. It is comfortable to move, sit and even run in them; they do not restrict movement and are in harmony with down jackets. If you prefer a warm dress, then you need to take with you several pairs of warm tights - let them also be made of natural material with a small amount of viscose or other synthetic fibers.
  • Shawls, scarves and hats. Here you can give free rein to your imagination and take everything you like with you on a winter trip. But you need to know that a knitted hat to cover your ears, a scarf with a national ornament to cover your head during excursions around the city, and a scarf will come in handy.
  • Shoes. According to statistics, boots and ankle boots with high heels, taken with you “just in case,” remain unclaimed throughout the entire vacation. You can definitely do without them, but you will need comfortable, not narrow boots with flat soles or a low platform. If your style is strictly sporty, then insulated sneakers with thick soles will come in handy.

For a winter trip, you will also need a handbag - it should not be a clutch or a miniature bag for a phone/wallet/mirror, as these models look ridiculous. You need to take a bulky and baggy-looking bag with you - stylish and practical.

Things to consider when traveling in Europe

Many of our compatriots look simply ridiculous in European countries; they can be distinguished from the local population immediately - just look at their clothes. In order not to get into trouble, not to cause bewilderment and a smile on the part of local residents of European countries, it is worth remembering the following:

  • Lurex, rhinestones, flounces and ruffles, open shoulders and décolleté are a thing of the past – only modest and almost faceless outfits will look natural in Europe. It is better to leave the attributes of “luxury” at home or go out in them at night. You can “play” with fabric textures, for example, try combining a thin cashmere coat and a silk skirt. But without experience, it’s unlikely that you’ll be able to look elegant in such an outfit, so it’s better not to take risks.
  • Jeans are a must - they are always appropriate, go well with various sweaters and T-shirts, and you can wear them to a museum, a cafe, or a trip on a river boat. Only jeans should be modest - without a scattering of rhinestones, lace inserts and “holes” (yes, torn models are also a thing of the past).
  • Warm jackets and sweaters. Even if according to the forecast there will be sun and heat, this still does not mean anything - weather forecasters have no direct connection with the “heavenly office”, and all other data is conditional. Let your suitcase contain a couple of jackets or sweaters, different in thickness.
  • T-shirts. They are universal - in case of a sudden cold snap, you can put them under a sweater and insulate them; in the heat, they will become a real salvation. You should avoid large inscriptions, rhinestones, sequins and embroidery - everything is neutral or with a minimum of decoration.

As for shoes, sneakers are the way to go. True, if you have shoes with round toes and minimal heels, then this will be the best option - you can go to a museum, go on an excursion, and go to a restaurant. Just don’t buy this model just before your vacation! There is always the possibility that the shoes will squeeze and rub - what pleasure is there in traveling, sheer pain and disappointment.

Fees when traveling by train, bus, car

If everything becomes clear with a suitcase for vacation, then what to wear directly on the road remains a mystery. It would seem that eternal jeans and a T-shirt or sweater, coupled with sneakers, should solve the problem regardless of what kind of transport you have to travel on. In reality, everything is not so simple.

Train

Its purity can be doubted endlessly, so it is necessary to prevent contact of parts of the body with the seats in the carriages. On the train you can lie down, sit down and even walk around the car. This type of transport involves stops during which people go out into the fresh air and stretch their muscles. Having compared everything, you can take with you:

  • tight leggings for a woman or sweatpants for a man - allow you to safely sit and lie in comfortable positions, and you can sleep in them, because they do not wrinkle, do not curl, and do not expose the body;
  • a classic-cut T-shirt and a thin synthetic sweater - no open necklines, short tops, T-shirts, everything is decent, comfortable, practical and not embarrassing to go out onto the platform during a stop;
  • light slippers or moccasins - you will also definitely need socks: hygiene and decency will be fully observed.

The material of clothing should be as natural as possible - sometimes the temperature on trains is so high, even in winter, that wearing synthetics will be uncomfortable, sweating will increase, and heat stroke is possible.

Bus

Extreme travel - no normal sleeping place, no frequent stops, and sudden braking of the bus often leads to food stains on clothes. Therefore, on the road you need not only to wear loose clothes - a T-shirt, leggings/sweatpants/shorts, but also take spare sets with you. The shoes are light and without heels, all materials are natural, but with the addition of a small amount of synthetics - the clothes will not wrinkle.

Even on a summer trip by bus, it is worth taking a thin woolen jacket with you - the nights can be cold, and the air conditioning can be turned on at the request of other passengers.

Car

An ideal option because it gives you freedom of choice. You can even travel in an evening dress and Louboutins, but a traveler’s usual wardrobe will be much more practical. Pants/shorts and a T-shirt/sweater are a tourist classic, comfortable and free. You definitely need to take a spare set of “outfit” so that you can change it at any time - drinking and eating “on the go” is extremely inconvenient and often ends with stains on your clothes.

Traveling is an exciting process. It can be made more comfortable and practical with the help of the right wardrobe. Recommendations from experienced tourists will definitely come in handy, the main thing is to perceive them correctly and take them into account.

Travel is becoming more accessible, distances between cities are being covered faster and faster. Rarely a modern girl has not wondered how to dress for a trip: ladies go on vacation and on business trips, to improve their cultural level and improve their health.

The choice of a fashionable look for the trip will depend on the purpose of the trip, the duration of the journey, and, of course, the chosen mode of transport. In this article, we’ll figure out how to take into account all the nuances of road life in your outfit without changing your style.

Basic travel clothing rules

Regardless of how far you plan to travel and on what, there are a few important tips to follow initially. This way you will weed out unsuitable wardrobe items.

  • Preference for plant materials

Cotton, linen, viscose, lyocell - these natural fabrics and their analogues will help you maintain optimal air exchange and temperature conditions. This is an important factor that needs to be taken into account when planning a tourist trip.

Even if such clothes wrinkle more, wearing a polyester dress or trousers on the road will still be stuffy and uncomfortable. In some cases, it may even cause skin irritation.

If it is critical for you that your clothes do not wrinkle too much, it is acceptable to contain synthetic threads: nylon or elastane. Read the label carefully; the amount of synthetics should not exceed the three percent threshold.

  • Low heel shoes

It’s easy to choose the right low shoes for any outfit: you have all kinds of moccasins, loafers, sandals, ballet flats, espadrilles, and sneakers at your disposal.

It’s best to exclude sneakers from the list because of the laces. Shoes should be such that taking them off and putting them on does not take much effort and time. Probably, on the way to a busy excursion trip, you will repeatedly want to quickly take off your shoes from your tired feet, and put them on again as soon as necessary.

  • Backpack instead of handbag

At most, a shoulder bag. When traveling, you need to have your hands free.

It is not necessary to choose a bulky travel backpack if you do not plan to fit all your luggage in it. Manufacturers provide fashionistas with a wide selection of compact and feminine urban backpacks.

For traveling by rail

If you have to get to your destination by train , Wear light cotton knee-length shorts in khaki shades. Pair with a bright, opaque shirt.

A convenient option would be a shirt, the sleeves of which can be extended to their full length, and, if necessary, shortened using a special fastener.

By air

If you plan to travel by plane, do not wear warm or tight-fitting clothes. Getting undressed and dressed in the limited space of the cabin is problematic. It is better to wear a light dress or sundress that is not tight anywhere and without decorative elements. Even if you feel a little chilly during the flight, the flight attendant will happily offer you a blanket.

Intercity buses

If you are planning a long journey by bus, choose a maxi skirt made of cotton or linen. You won’t be able to change clothes on the way, and if the air conditioning in the cabin is cool, the skirt will cover your legs and warm you up. If it’s stuffy, linen and cotton will provide air exchange. In addition, the skirt can always be lifted, carefully exposing the knees.

You can complement the skirt with a top with straps. Be sure to bring a thin cardigan with you.

On a trip to holy places

If you are planning to go on a pilgrimage, give preference to dull clothes that cover your body. Please note that, just like going to church, you don’t wear trousers, much less shorts, to holy places.

Opt for a thin, long-sleeve, knee-length dress. Don't wear makeup.

During the cold season

The tips listed above are ideal when choosing how to dress for a trip in the summer. The winter months require special solutions.

Woolen fabrics provide the best warmth. But wearing wool clothes indoors can feel stuffy. You can take off a wool sweater and put it next to it, but you will end up with bulky additional luggage.

Our advice is to use technical fabrics. Wear special thermal underwear under your main clothes. If necessary, you can undress in transport and stay in it only: modern thermal underwear is made in beautiful colors and an interesting cut.

We bring to your attention several useful videos on the topic of the article. In them you will see even more ready-made stylish looks, in which you will conveniently spend more than one hour while getting to your long-awaited vacation. Including, you will see a report from the scene: fashionistas at train stations and airports.

When getting ready to travel, it is very difficult to resist the temptation and not take all the contents of your wardrobe. But not all clothes are worth taking with you on vacation, and the size of a travel bag is limited.

What to wear on the road?

The surest way to save some space in your suitcase is to wear the things you set aside for your vacation. If you are traveling to warm countries when it is winter outside, then take care in advance of a place where you will put your warm clothes upon arrival. What to wear on the road in this case: a T-shirt or light raglan underneath, and cotton leggings under warm pants. Place a bag in the pocket of your travel bag to store warm clothes. Never wear clothes that are too tight on the road, as they will prevent you from relaxing or getting some rest. For trips in the cold season (to ski resorts), it is enough to take one warm sweater, several cotton raglans, and a light and warm down jacket is best for outerwear.

If you just can’t decide what to wear on a trip, you can do it in the simplest way. Just take those things that are easiest to combine with each other. Lay out the contents of your wardrobe in advance and select two or three raglans, and pair them with trousers or jeans. Never take trousers that are too tight for traveling: in the hot season they will stick to the body and create discomfort, and in the cold season they will not be able to warm you up. For a trip to the beach, a pair of T-shirts and shorts with a pareo will be enough.

Travel luggage

Travel luggage also needs to be folded correctly. Here are some tips on what to wear on a trip and how to pack it all wisely:

  • It is better to pack all travel clothes in bags according to their intended purpose (separately - things for the road, separately - for the beach);
  • Place on top those things that you may need along the way;
  • remember: the further south you go, the more colorful travel clothes you can afford;
  • Some resorts have a dress code for entering the restaurant, so bring more casual clothing as well.

Travel shoes

When going on vacation, remember that this is a time of rest for the soul and body, so practicality and comfort come first. If you are going to a resort, then three pairs of shoes will be enough for you: flip flops for the beach, sneakers or sports shoes for long excursions, sandals for the evening. To save space in your bag, it is best to immediately put on one of the selected pairs of shoes. Travel shoes should be chosen according to your outfits. It is very convenient to immediately collect several ensembles for each occasion and pack them in separate packages so as not to waste time searching.

There is no universal travel clothing. It all depends on the climate, location, purpose of the trip, your mood and many other things... For example, for a romantic weekend in Paris you will obviously choose a different set than for a trip to the Alps or a beach holiday in Thailand. But still, some ideas can be applied to travel of various formats.

Comfortable clothes for traveling

Leave your heels at home

If you still can’t imagine yourself without high-heeled shoes, take with you one of the most compact pairs. At the very least, you might need it for a nice photo shoot. The rest of the time, it’s unlikely that you’ll be pulling your smart sandals out of your suitcase every day: they’re uncomfortable to walk on either European cobblestones or southern sand. And there’s nothing to say about various natural parks. Fashion trends today allow you to choose excellent flat shoes, take advantage of them!

Folding items

For example, a foldable, weightless down jacket will be useful to you even on a summer trip - it can be cool in the evenings, and in the mountains, for example, the wind is always blowing and there is even snow. You will find this down jacket in the collections of many brands. It weighs a couple of hundred grams and takes up virtually no space in your suitcase thanks to its compact case.

Universal combinations

On vacation, do you want to look new every day? To do this, it is not necessary to take 15 sets of clothes with you - it is only important that all things can be combined in different ways. Start choosing combinations at home before your trip. Then the suitcase will turn out to be light, and your vacation images will be interesting. Win-win options include safari-style leisure and travel clothing, marine style and sportswear. All this can be easily combined with each other. But if you fill your suitcase with chic dresses, most likely you will never wear most of them.

Wrinkle-resistant things

You don't want to waste your precious vacation time ironing wrinkled things, do you? So you should not take with you clothes for leisure and travel made of linen, chiffon or thick cotton. It gets very wrinkled in the suitcase. By the way, a simple life hack: if something is wrinkled, turn on the hot water in the bathroom and hang the wrinkled item there on a hanger for a couple of minutes.

Clothes for traveling in Europe

In Europe, it is very easy to recognize Russian girls - by their inappropriately bright makeup in the morning, high-heeled shoes, diamonds and provocative, bright outfits. If you want to wear your best at once and stand out from the crowd, you can certainly do so.

But if the eye-catching “Russo Tourist” look is not for you, save the festive makeup and stilettos for the New Year’s corporate party. And for walks along European streets, give preference to nude makeup, comfortable loafers or sneakers and minimalist clothes.
