How to determine your face type

Method one

We will need a large mirror, a felt-tip pen or marker (it is better that it is easy to wash). Remove your hair from your face and go to the mirror. Remember to straighten your back and square your shoulders. Looking straight ahead, trace the outline of your face with a felt-tip pen, not taking into account the ears and volume of hair. At the same time, try not to move so that the drawing is as accurate as possible. Are you done? Step aside and evaluate the resulting figure.

Method two

Using a centimeter, measure your forehead, cheekbones and jaw at their widest point, as well as the vertical distance from your forehead to your chin. Compare the resulting indicators: which line is the widest? which is the narrowest? How much longer is the face vertically than horizontally? Match the answers with the description of each type of face.

To begin with, let’s identify not very successful hairstyles and haircuts for oblong face types and what should be avoided. If you want to find out in more detail which fashionable hairstyles are suitable for other face types, we recommend that you read our articles

What to avoid when choosing a hairstyle for an oblong face type

  • One of the undesirable options is direct long hair, attention, with an even parting in the middle - this hairstyle visually lengthens an already elongated face even more
  • High hairstyles gathered at the top of the head, with no bangs or loose strands
  • Hairstyles with combed hair at the temples and a completely open forehead
  • Short haircuts that reveal a lot of face

Fashionable hairstyles for oblong face types

Bob haircut - one of the most successful haircuts specifically for an oblong face shape, the length can be very varied, the main thing is to create the necessary volume in the area of the ears and cheekbones, thereby giving the face an oval shape.

Kare also a fairly common haircut and also universal, for an oblong face type it is also suitable classic version and a graduated bob, which will give the necessary volume, but it should be noted that the length of the bob should reach the chin. This hairstyle will look harmonious on a long face.

Multi-level or cascading haircuts great for girls with an oblong face shape, they look chic short hair ah or hair medium length, and on significantly longer ones - below the shoulder blades. Due to the many layers, such hairstyles do not require special styling and look fashionable and stylish, slightly rounding the face in the middle part.

Fashionable hairstyles for oblong faces with bangs

As for bangs, they are a highly recommended element of a haircut or hairstyle for an oblong face type, and it should be long enough, sometimes even reaching the eyebrow line. Thus, the bangs will completely cover the forehead, thereby giving the face not an elongated shape, but an ideal oval shape. The type of bangs itself can be very varied, it looks great both straight and long bangs, and a torn oblique that falls to the side. Multi-level and asymmetrical bangs are also suitable.

Another recommendation for creating a harmonious image is curled hair. This move will give the hair and the hairstyle itself additional volume, thereby expanding it on the sides, adding softness and more femininity, and in general your image will be quite proportional. Also, another option would be to create some kind of artistic chaos, and you must remember that the volume should be done in the back of the head and above the ears. This effect will give your hair a tousled and playful look.

Content

The main task when choosing a hairstyle is to correctly determine the type of face and visually make it more proportional and harmonious. Oval-shaped faces are considered the most correct, but on the condition that it is a perfect oval. This correct type is extremely rare. An oval face can have a more elongated shape, like Sarah Jessica Parker, or be more tapered towards the chin, like Liv Tyler.

The main task in choosing the right hairstyle for such a face will be to visually expand and reduce the length of the face. Elongated faces are not recommended to be fully opened, i.e. comb your hair away from your face, do high hairstyles without bangs. In general from any high hairstyles It's better to refuse. Hairstyles with a parting in the center of the head will visually lengthen the face, so you shouldn’t do them either. If you part your hair, it should be slightly to the right or left of the center.

Choosing the right hairstyle

Long, smooth hair without bangs will visually make your face even more elongated. But low short haircuts, especially with increased volume in the chin and cheekbones, will visually reduce the length of the face and make it more attractive.

A win-win option for a long face is bangs. It can be anything - long to the eyebrows, voluminous, smooth, oblique, light. All types of curls and styling that give maximum volume to your hair will also look great.

Graduated haircuts, provided that the styling is done correctly, will very favorably emphasize an elongated face. The hair length of such haircuts should ideally be shoulder-length or slightly lower. Today there are a huge number of graduated haircuts that are suitable for hair of both different lengths and different types. Very fashionable and stylish multi-layered haircuts will favorably emphasize a woman’s individuality and make her image more vibrant.

Of course, a lot depends on the professionalism of the hairdresser, because if the haircut is done in violation of the technology, over time the styling will not look neat. Also, a graduated haircut is ideal for those who are not used to spending a lot of time styling their hair. These haircut models, thanks to the different styling, can be easily modified from everyday to festive hairstyles.

Most suitable haircut For an oblong face, you can call it a graduated bob. It will perfectly balance the proportions of the face. An excellent addition to it would be elongated bangs. Lovers of short haircuts should give preference to those that allow you to slightly curl your hair. This is done either with a hairdryer or with a curling iron, and the texture of the hair, the so-called “torn ends,” can be highlighted using a special gel.

Long hair is rarely suitable for an elongated face type, as it visually elongates the silhouette, but this does not mean at all that you must say goodbye to your favorite curls. To adjust the proportions, it is enough to slightly twist the strands framing the face inwards and be sure to make an elongated bang, which will noticeably round the face.

Every representative of the fairer sex tries to find and emphasize her own style, her own “zest,” but the main adornment of any woman, first of all, is the internal feeling of her irresistibility.

When choosing a hairstyle for yourself, you need to take into account not only individual preferences in length, styling and overall look. A haircut that is well chosen for a large nose, for example, will visually, if not reduce, then balance large features, balance the volume of hair and draw the eye to the advantages of the face, drawing attention away from the shortcomings. If your nose is large, long or wide, the main thing in choosing how to transform your hair is to follow the stylist’s recommendations.

Here are a few golden rules for a haircut chosen for a face with a large nose:

  1. Long strands.
  2. Coloring and ombre.
  3. Perm.
  4. Asymmetrical bangs.

Short haircuts with a uniform length primarily draw attention to the face, directly to its center. The most successful choice would be medium length, to the shoulders and below, patiently grown natural hair or extended. Both long options require individual care, but the latter will allow you to experiment more freely with coloring.

If you lack inspiration, you can always get ideas from celebrities with similar features and their stylists. In this case, it’s difficult to make a mistake, and you can see examples of installation voluminous curls or well-cut side-swept bangs. Like a well-chosen coloring, such techniques will draw attention away from the nose, drawing attention primarily to the hair.

Therefore, there is no doubt: well-groomed hair and a winning hairstyle can radically change your image for the better:

Features of haircuts for people with a high forehead and a large nose (with photos)

A woman's haircut, which is chosen for a thin face with a large nose, will have its own distinctive features.

This example is given to remind you that it is worth taking into account not only the features individually, but also collectively, in order to choose a hairstyle that will complement the overall look.

If your face is thin and possibly elongated, it is worth balancing it with volume. Textured hair will add life and dynamism to your appearance, while being a good distraction from a large nose. In this case, it will not remain the only outstanding part, but will be balanced by the hairstyle.

For an oval face with a large nose a haircut will do almost any type, since (with the exception of a large nose) this shape is considered ideal.

That is, in this case you can choose hairstyles for any length: short peeps and bob or long cascades and stairs. The main thing is to never straighten your strands with a curling iron or a hairdryer with a comb, because they take on an unnatural appearance and simply don’t look bad. The perfect balance will be created by curled curls, especially large waves.

For a high forehead and large nose, a haircut with the addition of side bangs will be ideal. In this case, the benefits are literally “on your face”, since such a hairstyle:

  1. Creates asymmetry.
  2. It will hide your forehead.

Both points in this case are important, since oblique lines of strands in the upper part of the face on a subconscious level lead the eye to the side, especially if the bangs are curled outward.

Successful haircuts for faces with a large nose can be looked at in the photo to create the correct visual image in your mind:

Short to Medium Haircuts to Balance Faces with Large Noses

  1. Kare.

Too short variations, such as pixies, it’s better to sweep them aside. The bob will look good graduated and will create the necessary volume. If your hair is naturally thin and sparse, you can apply foam at the roots and lightly backcomb it. It’s good to dilute the classic bob with waves, and to add texture, apply a special oil to the strands.

Haircut for medium hair, perfectly balancing big nose– this is everyone’s favorite cascade:

The hairstyle itself is an almost universal option and a basic choice, on the basis of which you can create various images tailored to your individual characteristics. Thus, voluminous hairstyles with a cap will look especially advantageous, as well as curls and stylish bouffants in the spirit of Adele and Amy Winehouse. This look will not only smooth out the “sharp corners” well, but will also create a unique aesthetic in the image.

What haircuts are suitable for women and girls if they have a big nose (with photo)

Haircuts chosen for women with large noses will have a more restrained and calm character.

For women, stylish short hairstyles such as bobs and bobs with a less drastic difference in length between the top and front are great.

If desired, you can leave bangs, again, smoothing out the difference in the length of the strands and smoothly moving them to the side. This choice will delight you with the practicality and stylishness of the image, creating a pleasant, neat appearance. Crazy curls should be avoided, but voluminous roots will come in handy.

Haircuts for women with big noses can be seen in the photo, which shows many different options:

Don't be shy about coloring your hair, although highlighting should be avoided. Muted shades of light brown combined with a few lightened strands will add softness to the face and perfectly complement the features.

Almost nothing stops young girls from choosing a hairstyle, since young age is the time for experimentation. Bright coloring will distract from large features, large curls along the entire length will add volume and dilute everyday life with an interesting detail in the image.

When asked which haircut would suit a girl with a big nose, the first thing to answer is: a long, textured cascade.

Of course, loose hair can also get boring, and you don’t look like that every day: bad weather, not enough time for styling, anything else.

The original option would be to collect the hair at the back of the head and raise it at the top. Leave a few strands to frame the face, comb the tail and secure it with varnish or mousse in a “creative mess” - quickly and original.

What haircut is suitable if your nose is large, you can look at the photo to make sure that there are actually a whole lot of available options:

It is worth noting that no matter what hairstyle you choose, light color hair, such as blond or light brown, always creates an aura of lightness. While black and chestnut sharply and unambiguously outline the face, gold and ash blur and smooth out sharp corners and large features.

We continue the topic of face shapes, and today we’ll talk about an elongated face.

A face is considered elongated if its length to width ratio is greater than 1.6.

The ratio of length to width of the face is not the only characteristic of its shape. An elongated face can be oval, rectangular, triangular, proportional or with unbalanced proportions. However, all elongated faces are perceived primarily as long and narrow; other features of the shape are leveled out by its length and therefore fade into the background.

Let us remind you that recommendations for various face types are aimed at adjusting proportions and bringing the face closer to the ideal shape - an oval. If you are completely and completely satisfied with a long, narrow face - and this definitely has its own charm, chiseled features and aristocracy - then you have no need to resort to these techniques. If you want to slightly adjust the shape, let's see what means there are for this.

All recommendations for this face shape are aimed at visually reducing its length and increasing its width. The distribution of volume works for this - minimum at the top and bottom, maximum at the sides, horizontal lines and visual “crushing” of the face into parts. Let's look more specifically.

Hairstyle.

The basic rule is minimum volume on top and maximum on the sides. Long bangs are often recommended for long faces, but here you also need to take into account other nuances of appearance: if the nose is long, or the proportions in the middle or lower part of the face are disturbed, then straight long bangs will draw attention to these shortcomings. A win-win option is long, side-swept bangs, thick enough to cover the forehead hairline and cover part of the forehead. Straight bangs are suitable if the face is elongated precisely due to a high forehead, and other proportions are not violated: it will hide the forehead and create a visual horizontal line that will divide the face into parts, thereby shortening it and slightly widening it.

If you have short hair, you are happy with your jawline and neck, facial features and you would like to correct only the length-width proportion, try a cap haircut. It creates volume on the sides, emphasizing facial features and jawline. Since it is done with bangs, you need an option with long straight bangs level with the level of the cap.

If you are dissatisfied with your jawline or the proportions of the lower two-thirds of your face, it is better for owners of long faces to avoid short hair.

Haircuts for medium hair.
Medium hair length is ideal for long faces. The preferred length is at chin level. Long haircuts (bob, bob) will elongate the face even more. Shorter ones will emphasize the chin and also visually elongate the face.
You can choose any shape - bob, bob, sessun, adhering to the basic principles:
- long oblique bangs or strong graduation of strands near the face; By graduation he does not mean a ladder of strands along the face, but a layer-by-layer graduation that adds volume to the hairstyle.

Minimal volume on top, on the crown and voluminous sides. Wavy and curly hairstyles are perfect for this face shape.

Asymmetrical side parting; Avoid straight symmetrical parting or combed-back hair: this will emphasize the length of the face and visually increase it.

If you have long hair, a cascading haircut will suit you, always with bangs - preferably oblique, long, graduated. Straight bangs combined with long strands of hair will elongate your face even more. If you wear a haircut with a ladder, lay the strands in the direction away from the face, use voluminous styling with large curls.

As for hairstyles, the principle is the same as when choosing haircuts: minimal volume on top, voluminous sides. The most optimal hairstyles are wavy or curly hair, with loose strands on the sides. If you need a smooth hairstyle, the face can be adjusted using a side parting, side bangs or an accent on the side of the face.

Glasses can solve two problems at once: create an additional horizontal line that will divide the face into parts and shorten it, and compensate for the length.

If you wear corrective glasses or don’t have anything against cosmetic glasses, take a closer look at frames like brownline and cat eye - their accentuated upper edge gives a horizontal line and widens the face. The cat's eye should not be too angled; the lines should be positioned horizontally rather than diagonally. Rectangular frames with accentuated outer corners of the frame and decorated temples are also suitable.

Rimless frames are not suitable for a long face - they will look neutral at best, but will not solve additional problems in facial correction. You should also avoid narrow frames and small glasses - they will lengthen your face even more. If you're ready to try nerds, choose larger, larger frames.

When it comes to sunglasses, the choices are almost limitless. The main thing is that the glasses should be large enough and give a clear horizontal line; for example, a cat's eye with a strong slope will not work. You can try aviators (not small ones), wayfarers, grandees, and a mask. Choose bright frames, colored glasses, gradient lenses are perfect. Pay attention to the arms - a bright color or decor will help visually expand the face.

Eyebrows are very important for any face shape, and long ones are no exception. Clear, wide eyebrows create a horizontal line that visually expands the face. For maximum effect Eyebrows on a long face should be long and wide, with a slight bend, perhaps even straight. Round eyebrows or eyebrows with a very steep bend will visually lengthen the face. Pay attention to the location of the break point: modern eyebrows are adjusted from a 2:1 ratio, that is, the back is 2/3 of the length of the eyebrow, the break point is located approximately above the iris of the eye. For an elongated face, this point can be moved a little closer to the temple, lengthening the back even more. The distance between the eyebrows should be equal to the length of the eye, but if the seating of the eyes allows, this distance can be increased slightly, thereby moving the eyebrows away from each other.

Makeup.

The main purpose of makeup is to visually increase the width of the face and reduce the length.

What can you do for this:

When sculpting the face, use a dark tone on the forehead along the hairline and on the chin. No need to stress in a dark tone tint the hollow under the cheekbone and the sides of the face minimally dark, just to highlight the contour, nothing more.
- use highlighter only in the central part of the face. With its help you can highlight your eyes, cheekbones, and the back of your nose. Do not focus on the forehead and chin;
- Apply blush to the apples of your cheeks and blend almost horizontally. The steeper the angle of blush shading, the visually longer and narrower the face;
- eyebrows should be emphasized. If your eyebrows are dark and thick enough, just comb them and fix them with eyebrow gel or wax. If the eyebrows are light or not the thickest, use eyebrow pencils and shadows to achieve a clear shape and the necessary saturation;
- in eye makeup, try to lengthen your eyes. Use eyeliner, winged eyeliner, an additional layer of mascara on the outer corners of the eyes;
- be sure to work on your lips. A clear contour and fairly rich color will create additional horizontal lines on the face. It is important to make a good contour, including in the corners of the lips. Matte lipsticks are preferable; glossy lipsticks and glosses will give a highlight in the lower part of the face, which can negate your efforts to correct it.

An elongated face allows you to use makeup with a simultaneous emphasis on the eyes and lips. Of course, this option should correspond to the situation and be appropriate, but if the accents are dim and soft, they may well be acceptable in daytime makeup.

Hats.

Avoid hats with volume at the top of the head. When choosing a hat, choose a model with a low crown and a flat, wide brim. Important correct landing hats: for a long face, the hat should be placed so that its brim is almost parallel to the floor, and in no case should it be raised to the top of the head. You can try boaters, gauchos, Breton hats, wide-brimmed hats and even wheel hats.

Soft, voluminous berets that fold in folds on the sides of the face will be good. Voluminous hoods suit an elongated face.

Decorations.

Earrings.
If you choose small earrings that sit tightly on your earlobe, give preference to large, catchy options. Large stones with a glassy or opal shine, metal shine, light or bright saturated colors - such earrings will create two accent points on the sides of the face, which will visually expand it.
